Queen of the Deep

Think about the following question and post a comment while you watch the videos and read the text:

How is Sylvia Earle helping to protect the environment?

By Jaime Joyce

April 15, 2016

On a recent Sunday morning, 28 kids from the Cabo Pulmo Youth Center stood on a beach in Cabo Pulmo, Mexico. They wore life jackets and flippers. They fitted snorkel tubes in their mouths. And they strapped on masks. Then they waddled into the cool water. Teachers were there to help. One of them was a famous oceanographer. Her name is Sylvia Earle.

  1. Sylvia Earle is a great women! She helps the Planet by underwater expeditions, various studies of the Ocean and dissemination of information about natural problems. She spent underwater over 7000 hours. And
in 1979, she set the world record for a solo deep-sea dive.

  2. Selvia Earle just done! She saves the okenes and seas from extinction. She's a marine veterinarian, so to speak. It also cleans the water from all debris. She said: "no ocean no live, no ocean no us " She showed that she is not afraid to swim in the water with a bunch of sharks in order to save them and the ocean. She also encourages others to cleanse the ocean too. She creates excursions where she shows the ocean and what happened to it because of the people. People seeing this already without her help organize a group where they clean the ocean. She said that she began to take a great interest in the ocean since she was three years old, when she had a wave. She said that in her childhood this was not. This means that these people have been polluting the ocean for years.

  4. Selvia Earle is a very kind and brave person! She spent underwater over 7000 hours. It protects the oceans and seas from debris and from man himself. Selvia is not afraid to swim next to sharks, risking her life just for them. At present, excessive fish are caught, corals are extinct and seemingly terrible sea creatures are destroyed.

    2. Hi Victoria,
Sylvia Earle is teaching children about being aware of the animals living in the ocean. Sylvia is teaching people that we need to treat the ocean with more respect. Every time we put trash or disrespect the ocean we are hurting the animals living in the ocean. She is trying to make sure all the animals living in the ocean are safe and healthy.

  5. She is the kind of people that we all need in our planet and we lack those kinds of people. She makes seeing wonderful creatures of enormous oceans of our planet possible. She makes people's lives better by making one of the oldest types of creatures survive and whatever she gets paid, it's not enough. Seas are now seen as a source of money and as a battle field for submmarines with hundreds of orbital nuclear weapons on them. She is a hero!

    1. Yes I agree that we need a lot more people like her. I think it's cool that Mission Blue has 59 Hope Spots around the world. I thought it was very cool that the people of Cabo Pulmo worried and decided to help. Thanks to them the number in that area rose 500 percent. It is also cool that they persuaded the government to make the Cabo Pulmo National park.

Sylvia Earl is a true hero. Her impressive acts of kindness to our world is not only impressive, but life saving. Project blue or as Sylvia calls it “blue heart,” is an amazing group of people getting together to try and save our oceans. One reason I love this group is because I really love the ocean, and I don't want it to be full of trash when I am older. Another reason is by helping the ocean you are helping animals. I love animals so much that I want to be a vet when I am older. A quote that stood out to me was the quote "No ocean, no life, no ocean, no us." I do not live by the see but I know I can help out in many other ways.

  7. Sylvia Earl is very nice, caring and most importantly, not indifferent to all living things! She's like a real hero for me! She cleans the ocean, helps the inhabitants of the ocean, it seems to me, without her, the ocean would not be what it is now! She created a special community in which they help the ocean. I want to quote her phrase that impressed me: "No ocean - no life, no ocean - no us." To be honest, this phrase will probably stay with me forever. Her "Blue" team is doing and will be doing "blue" things! We, Ukrainians, do not live near the ocean or some other sea, but we can protect our lakes, rivers ... To start with a small one, for example, just don't litter, just saw the garbage to remove it, just share this information with others! I will repeat all the same one more time: Silver Earl is a real heroine! 👏

  8. I think that Sylvia is very helpful to the environment, especially the oceans. I also completely agree with her opinion that not all marine animals and fish are dangerous. Let's even take the same whale sharks we saw in the video, they look big and will easily eat you if they want to, but do they really want to eat us? do they need it No, they are completely peaceful animals, and there are many like them all over the ocean. From this point of view, even the sharks themselves do not really want to eat us, they generally have enough small fish, which are plentiful in the oceans, but we humans are invading their home, so they must protect it. This is a common instinct. We also stubbornly defend our homes. They are very similar to us, so we will not be cruel.

  10. Sylvia Erale proves to us that animals are part of the living. You do not need to offend them. Some aquatic inhabitants do not harm, injure or even eat us. Therefore, we must not harm the lives of aquatic life. Do not litter in bodies of water, oceans. Do not catch fish, crabs, shrimp, and so on, do not kill. And remember that they are not at home and we are in them)🐳🐋🐬

  19. Sylvia Earle is trying to show kids and adults how to take care of the ocean. She is trying to motivate kids to help change the world. She also is showing the kids what the ocean is home to so they understand how if we don't take care of our ocean, how it will affect the animals that live in the oceans. Like she said, If we don't start helping now, our ocean will be gone. This can affect us BIG time! So we must start right now! I also have a house on the Golf Of Mexico. When COVID was not here I helped pick up trash all around the beach. That is helping make a difference in the world. So, if you ever go to the beach and see trash, PICK IT UP! (Well not during COVID days.) That will help all sea life! Also, fill in our holes that you dig on the beach! Sometimes baby sea turtles get stuck in those holes and die. So we need to fill in those holes. Always do something to help change the world. One small act can lead to something BIG!

If Sylvia and a group are the only ones working then the ocean is going to get worse and its just going to keep dying. So we need to work to help the ocean. The first way is that she brings awareness. She photographs and videos these creatures, and also makes speeches about them.
The next was that Sylvia is helping protect the environment is that she's not afraid to point things out. She's not afraid to say that you're not doing your part.
The last way that she is helping our environment is that she is a pioneer. She is a woman, and she has spent so many hours, specifically more than 7,000 , underwater, researching our wonderful oceans. She has dedicated her life for the well being of us, our oceans, and animals.
